: In order to facilitate smooth data transfer and coordination between sensor nodes in a variety of application scenarios, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) depend on effective communication protocols. A summary of the main communication protocols created especially for WSNs is given in this study, with an emphasis on their features, attributes, and applicability to various deployment circumstances. We go over protocols that cover several tiers of the network stack, such as network/security techniques for effective and safe communication, transport protocols for sending messages, routing protocols for data transmission, and MAC protocols for medium access control. We also investigate localization protocols that allow sensor nodes to be precisely positioned within the network. Network designers can maximize WSN performance and successfully satisfy application requirements by being aware of the advantages and disadvantages of different communication protocols.
