A Fuzzy Based Passive Islanding Detection Method for Distributed Generation System

Abstract

This study introduces a novel diagnostic framework for distributed generation systems (DGS) that employ voltage source inverters (VSIs) for power conversion. Initially, a parametric method is applied to determine the network’s equilibrium point by analyzing sensor outputs for voltage and current. The stability of the DGS is then assessed using a fuzzy logic approach, leveraging passive indicators—specifically, variations in power and frequency. Simulation models were constructed in MATLAB and evaluated using fuzzy logic techniques. Islanding and non-islanding scenarios were tested within the VSI-PD configuration across varying load conditions, network disturbances, and evolving network parameters. The simulation results validate the proposed method’s effectiveness and rapid response.
