Anemia is a major health problem in India. India was the first country worldwide to start an anemia control program in 1970 National Anemia Prophylaxis Program. In 1992 it was renamed National Nutritional Anemia Control Program. In 2013 it was changed into National Iron Plus Initiative. In 2018 the Ministry of health and family welfare (MoHW) launched an ambitious program to control the rate of anemia in India they named this program ANEMIA MUKT BHARAT (AMB) Anemia free India. AMB strategy focused on six primary beneficiary groups. 6 beneficiary groups are 1. Children (6-59 months) 2. Children (5-9 years) 3. Adolescent (10-19y both boys & girls) 4. Women of reproductive age(15-49 years) 5. Pregnant women 6. Lactating women In 2026 one more group is added that is 7. Low birth weight baby This data is collected from NFHS's.
